Parklife Taqueria offers Persian-Texan-inspired Mexican dishes and craft cocktails in Brooklyn’s buzzy Gowanus neighborhood.

The Ask

Parklife asked Carnsmedia to garner new media attention for its 5-year-old restaurant, which recently lost a popular chef with a loyal following.

Parklife

The 5-year Challenge

Media outlets often feature new restaurant openings by established chefs. A restaurant’s 5-year-point is typically a dried-up point for new media attention.

Out of the Kitchen
Engineer turned chef Scott Koshnoodi had a wealth of experience in the kitchen, but it had been 10 years since he worked for Michelin-starred staples WD-50 and Aquavit.

Who moved my Chef?
The original chef had garnered a substantial following by offering authentic regional dishes from her hometown, Puebla, Mexico. The new chef would offer an uncommon (and unfamiliar) twist on a traditional taqueria menu.

NYC Michelin-trained Chef reimagines “a taco” at Parklife Taqueria — an outdoor restaurant adjoining his popular music club — just in time for spring

Located minutes from the bustling Barclay Center on a serene, tree-lined street, Parklife takes you back to the good ol’ days of camping under the stars. The one exception? The addition of a Michelin-trained Chef.

Influencer Network

Working Hand-in-Hand With Influencers

Since the location was integral to the social strategy, we comprised a top-notch team of high-energy content creators local to Parklife based in Gowanus and the neighboring communities. Their Reels, Stories, and feed posts help drive local traffic through the door, ultimately garnering new—and most notably, repeat—customers.

Social Media

A Vibrant Social Presence

From the copywriting to the graphics to the art direction of each shot, we believe every restaurant needs its bespoke social strategy to succeed in generating brand awareness — ultimately increasing foot traffic and revenue. Through these mediums, Carnsmedia established a distinct, high-energy, and creative brand voice to speak directly to Parklife’s potential customers, thus breathing new life and palpable energy into a five-year-old restaurant.

The How

Carnsmedia leveraged the innovative Persian-Texan menu and chef’s Michelin background with the restaurant’s unique outdoor park-like setting — complete with campfire, picnic benches, proximity to axe throwing, rock climbing, and archery classes — to help garner buzz and awareness for a must-go day trip travel destination for thrill-seeking city dwelling foodies just minutes from downtown Brooklyn.

From there, we got straight to crafting a timely press release swiftly sent to top-tier journalists ahead of Cinco de Mayo. As part of our strategy, we also targeted local micro-influencers, who worked with our team to create original social media content. Targeted local Instagram ads and a robust social strategy were also vital steps in this recipe for success.

Parklife

When creating a custom press release for Parklife, we should think like editors and consider two key questions: 1) What is new and noteworthy about this restaurant? and 2) Why is now the right time to share this information? From these questions, we developed a compelling story that highlights Chef Scott’s unique cuisine, which honors his Persian and Texan roots while incorporating Mexican flavors.

Understanding that timing is crucial for journalists, we planned ahead and sent the press release weeks in advance of Cinco de Mayo to emphasize the “why now” aspect. Additionally, we wanted to showcase Parklife’s vibrant outdoor space and its central location near Barclays Center, nestled in one of Brooklyn’s most lively neighborhoods. The venue is surrounded by various outdoor activities, including axe throwing, archery, and rock climbing — all located on the same block!
