How Carnsmedia Uncorked a New Crowd for Pinkerton Wine Bar, a Natural Wine Bar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

A 13-year-old natural wine bar that had never spent a dime on advertising; Carnsmedia brought the room back to life with orange wine, influencers and a bustling late-night crowd.

The Ask

Natural wine bar social media & influencer marketing in Brooklyn

Thirteen years in Williamsburg, Pinkerton had never spent a dime on advertising — then the new wine bars opened, the crowds drifted to the shiny new rooms, and the bar that started it all got quiet. So Pinkerton called Carnsmedia with one demand: bring us new customers.

Then the new wine bars opened. The crowds drifted to the shiny new rooms, and the out-of-the-way bar that started it all got quiet.

So Pinkerton called Carnsmedia — a wine bar social media agency in NYC — with one demand: bring us new customers.

The Challenge

An out-of-the-way location. A 13-year-old reputation the next generation of wine drinkers had never heard of. New natural wine bars pulling the crowd on every corner.

And a dead zone. Pinkerton doesn’t serve dinner, so when happy hour ended at 7, the room emptied — and stayed empty till close.

Great wine. No audience. The cruelest math in the wine business.

Good Company

Patio Season

“Carnsmedia has spent 20 years connecting New York’s most interesting bars with the people who fill them — through wine industry relationships, media contacts, and creators who trust our calls. Pinkerton deserved a crowd worthy of its list. We brought ours.“

The How

Pinkerton didn’t need a new identity. It needed a new audience. We turned its deepest strength — orange wine — into the headline, aimed it at Williamsburg locals, let wine influencers and seasonal reels spread it, and finished with a $1.50 oyster reverse happy hour that turned the bar’s emptiest hours into its busiest.

STEP 1

Make Orange Wine Famous

We found the superpower: orange wine. Pinkerton’s list was loaded with it, so we built a viral social media promotion around it — the skin-contact pours, that amber color in the glass, the flavor profiles — and made it the bar’s calling card.

STEP 2

Target Local Wine Drinkers

We aimed at the neighborhood. Targeted Instagram ads put Pinkerton in front of local drinkers who already loved orange wine, sustainable wine, and organic wine. Not tourists — the Williamsburg locals who decide where the block drinks.

STEP 3

Influencers, Reels, Every Season

We invited dozens of highly specific voices in the wine community to create viral reels that reached local wine drinkers where they actually scroll. And the content changed with the calendar — fall wines in the fall, spring wines in the spring, every campaign built around the flavors of the moment.

STEP 4

$1.50 Oysters After Dark

Everyone else in Brooklyn does happy hour 5 to 7. We flipped it: $1.50 oysters from 8 PM to midnight. Targeted ads and influencer marketing aimed at oyster and seafood lovers turned Pinkerton’s dead zone into its busiest hours — packed till midnight.

Questions, answered

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get more people to know about my wine bar?

Post the strongest thing on your list, over and over, where local people will see it. For one Williamsburg bar, that was orange wine. We posted reels of the pours, aimed the posts at people in the neighborhood, and had influencers share them. More people nearby learned the bar’s name, saw what to order, and came in to try it.

I’ve never paid for advertising. Is it too late to start — and where do I begin?

Not too late. The bar in this case study went 13 years without spending a dime on marketing. Begin with what’s free: post the hero pour consistently, target the neighborhood, and invite the right creators in. Add a small paid push later, behind the posts that already work.

Do wine influencers actually bring people into a small bar?

Yes — if they’re the right ones. The creators who cover a bar like yours don’t just post wine; they cover food and cocktails too, so their followers are people actively choosing where to eat and drink. Dozens of them posted reels from this bar, and one trusted recommendation fills more seats than any boosted post.

What are some creative promotions for a wine bar?

Build the promotion around the hours you need to fill. This bar emptied out when its early happy hour ended, so we created a late-night special — $1.50 oysters from 8 PM to midnight — and promoted it to oyster and seafood lovers. The bar stayed packed till midnight. The same thinking works with a pour: pick one wine, make it the reason to come in, and promote that.

Do I need paid ads, or is posting on Instagram enough?

Posting builds the audience; a little paid spend aims it. The ads here targeted local wine drinkers — the people who can actually walk in this week. Posting without targeting hopes the right people find you. Targeting goes and gets them.
